Today Ararat, Virginia, is the section of Patrick County bounded on the west from the Carroll County line, north along the ridge of the Blue Ridge Mountains, south by the North Carolina/Virginia State Line up to Highway 103 and on the east by the Dan River including the area known as Kibler Valley. At one time part of southern Carroll County below the mountain was part of Patrick County.
